I have to say that I just don’t get it; maybe someone can explain it to me. I just don’t understand the thought process behind, “I am willing to bet that I will be fine; I don’t care how many people I will infect, and if they die, they die.”
When did we become a nation of people who care only about themselves? I don’t remember us being so much like this. I know that we have always had some people in our population who didn’t care about anyone but themselves, who are always thinking, “What’s in it for me?” We sure do seem to have an explosion of them now. Maybe the issue is that they are just feeling more confident expressing those feelings in public now.
It is my sincere hope that it really isn’t that there are a lot more people like this out there, and that the few that are there are just are more vocal than they used to be.
This is a pandemic that didn’t have to be as bad as it is, but it is what it is now, and it must be dealt with. I really am starting to think that all these people who don’t feel the need to socially distance themselves from others should just be rounded up together and left to themselves, which is apparently what they want anyway. But first let them come up with a list of people they are willing to have die because of their actions (or inactions). Then let them exchange lists with others who feel the same way – I wonder how many of them would find themselves on other people’s lists?
There doesn’t seem to be any way to get through to some people. If someone has decided to not believe people who would know (doctors, scientists, etc.), then I don’t know what would convince them.
I was once told that my problem is that I believe people are basically good, and that apparently they are not. I hope that’s not true. I have to believe that most people do care about more than just themselves.
Stay home, stay safe, and keep your loved ones safe.
