Pay attention

I wonder if people know how it sounds to some of us when they say they don’t have to stay in, because they aren’t afraid to get this virus because they are young, or healthy, or whatever. Because when someone says that to me, what I hear is, “I don’t care about you or my parents or grandparents, or anyone who is vulnerable, because I don’t think I am.” That may or may not be what they mean, but that is how they come across.

I do understand that a lot of people will get this virus, and they will recover from it. I am not so sure that I would recover, because I have a history of real bad asthma and lungs, and I have an autoimmune disease. That doesn’t necessarily mean that I would not recover, but I am not willing to take that chance, since if I don’t recover and do die, I don’t get another chance.

So if you are one of those people who can’t see beyond their own existence, I beg you to look at the big picture here. Yeah, you might feel fine right now, you might never get any symptoms. But you also may be a non-symptomatic carrier, and you could be spreading this virus to anyone you come into contact with, or who comes into contact with things, like handrails, that you have come into contact with.

This is a time when we truly do have to think about the fact that we are all one, and that everything we do affects everyone around us. Please pay attention.

Please understand, that if we do flatten this curve and it does get better instead of worse, it won’t have been a waste, it will be because people paid attention, and did the right thing for all of us
