Fairness

I have an intense sense of fairness, and while this may seem like a good thing, sometimes it is not. The world is not always fair; sometimes bad things happen to good people, people who don’t do the right thing are rewarded, while people who do the right thing get punished. I struggle with this sometimes.

Yet I don’t know that I would want to feel differently. Things may not always be fair, but shouldn’t they be? Babies should not get cancer, coming forward to help someone should not result in something bad happening to you, and bad behavior shouldn’t be rewarded.  I know that this is not reality, and yet believing these things and acting on them seem to be the only way that reality will change.

So I am going to continue to believe that things should be fair, and to work to that end, all the while understanding that they are not (yet).
