I want to go out and do things too. I want to go out to dinner in a restaurant, go back to Pilates, play cards with my friends, and all the other stuff I did before this pandemic struck.
But I don’t want to get sick and die, and I don’t want anyone else to get sick and die. So I will continue to mostly stay home, wear a mask when I do go out, socially distance, and wash my hands a lot. It’s not that hard.
Our country did pretty well at the beginning, until the orange guy in the White House made it clear that he doesn’t believe in science or reality, and made wearing a mask a cultural and political thing. He pushed governors to reopen too soon, and made this whole thing worse than it had to be. I do sometimes wonder where we would be right now if we had a president who believed people were more important than money.
But it is what it is. We had chances to make this better than it is now, and they were squandered by a man who cares about nothing but himself and his money. Now we have to move on with what we have. We can’t go anywhere because other countries have closed their borders to us, and rightfully so. I never in a million years thought that I would live long enough to see our country sink so low in the eyes of the world, yet here we are.
I do think that all these people who are complaining about wearing a mask and doing other things that help protect others should be made to sign away their rights to any and all medical care should they get the virus – no hospital, no ICU, no respirator, no nothing. I do not wish anyone ill, but you reap what you sow. If you are not willing to do easy things to protect the people around you, then why would you be surprised when people around you are not willing to do anything to protect you?
The gist of this is: WEAR THE DAMN MASK.
