Phone apps

Phone apps – aren’t they great. You can do almost everything from your phone these days, and, if that’s what you want to do, go for it. I don’t think you’re crazy for doing that – it probably makes your life easier.

But I don’t want to use my phone for everything, and I am starting to get annoyed with some of these companies that keep telling me about their phone apps. I saw all your announcements in the lead-up to the release of your app, and I didn’t sign up because I don’t want to use it. Then you released it, and sent me innumerable announcements about it being available – I still don’t want it. And now that it has been out for a while, you continue to send me information about it – please stop!

At the very least, please have a check box (or something) that allows me to say “I have seen all your announcements, and I still do NOT choose to download your app – stop contacting me about it!

Everyone seems to have their own app : Facebook, the bank, the insurance company, AAA – even my doctors. That’s great, and I still don’t want it. If I change my mind, I know how to contact your company and get it, so leave me alone. You have successfully turned something that is supposed to make life easier, into something that totally annoys me.

Sure – go ahead and let me know you have it. But let me opt out of future notifications – I know where to get it if and when I want it. And, just for the record, I am not a total Luddite – I do use some apps, I just don’t want every app that is out there.
