Have to or choose to?

I am getting out of the “I have to” business, and getting into the “I choose to” business. It may seem silly, but words matter.  And the reality is that I really don’t “have” to do anything! There are things that I “choose” to do that are not particularly fun, but I like the results of doing them. For instance, if I choose to go grocery shopping, then we have food at home and I can choose to cook a healthy meal. I can choose to do the laundry, and then we have clean clothes to wear.

So will no longer say I “have” to do anything – I will say that I “choose” to do it. After all, the choice is mine to make. I can either choose to do it or choose to not do it. I will then reap the consequences for either doing it or not.
